Slack Motherfuckers

Here’s a cool article about Superchunk in The Awl. I love this part:

Here’s something like a thesis: the understated way that Superchunk goes about being great frustrates the act of criticism. There are no large upheavals or aesthetic tear-down jobs from album to album, merely well-thought-through tinkerings and evolutions. Not many bands can sound so much like themselves whether it’s Steve Albini or Jim O’Rourke behind the boards. But then this radical dependability, presented once and again over many a year, tends to be peg-resistant and “take”-discouraging.

And I like the exchange Mac has with the author regarding “how people think of stuff.”

No unnecessary parts

A drawing should have no unnecessary lines and a machine no unnecessary parts.

That’s how I feel about songs.

Two Weeks ago at The Fretted Frog

I just found that Roland from The Fretted Frog posted videos from the night I played. Here’s Ewa:

Zooey + Ukulele + Beach Boys

The fantastic Zooey Deschanel (and her band She and Him) performing “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” at the LA Food and Wine Festival. Loving that ukulele.
